Sarah’s Creative Journey: How Watercolor Painting Transformed Her Life

There once was a woman named Sarah. She was in her 30s, married, and had two lovely kids, aged 5 and 7. Sarah had graduated from a college far away with a bachelor's degree, where she studied arts a little on the side.

Sarah loved taking pictures of families, especially those with young kids. She owned a small photography business but wished it could be more than just a side thing. She had a virtual assistant to help her with her work, but sometimes it still felt overwhelming.

Despite her love for photography, Sarah felt like something was missing. She wanted to be the best mom and person she could be, but she often felt stuck in a routine that didn't leave much room for creativity or fun.

Sarah's days were filled with work, taking care of her family, and worrying about not being good enough. She longed for a way to express herself creatively and have some time just for her. But with all her responsibilities, she found it hard to make that happen.

At night, Sarah would lie awake, thinking about everything she didn't get to do and how she could be better. She felt like she was missing out on joy and opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally.

One day, Sarah stumbled upon a watercolor art membership that seemed perfect for her. It promised to teach her the basics of watercolor painting and provide resources to help her get started. It also offered a community of like-minded people who shared her passion for creativity.

Sarah decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be just what she needed. She discovered a new love for painting and found that it helped her relax and recharge after a long day. She even started painting with her kids and spouse, creating beautiful memories together.

With the support of the membership, Sarah felt more confident and fulfilled. She no longer felt like she was just going through the motions. Instead, she was able to embrace her creativity and be the best version of herself, both at home and in her business.

Thanks to the watercolor art membership, Sarah's life was better and brighter than ever before. She had found a way to balance her responsibilities with her passion for creativity, and it made all the difference.

✨ “I have always loved watercolor, and in 2020, early pandemic, felt really drawn to painting for stress and anxiety relief. I know when I paint I 'lose' myself in the process, which is therapeutic and grounding. I rediscovered Erika and followed on with The Playful Painter Studio. I love how Erika is always there to gently, no judgement, nudge us into finding ourselves again through creativity. It's not about being 'good' at making art.

It's about experiencing joy and community, and knowing that it's there for you when you're ready. I appreciate Erika so much for her generosity of spirit and for the way she connects with you through her own creativity.” - Juliet P.

✨ “I grew more confident in my technical skills as well as exploring my creativity. My biggest a-ha moment was that I can find 5 minutes in my day to create if I really want to. It may not look as elaborate as I'd like, but 5 minutes is better than nothing. The main reason I would share this with others is the welcoming community with support for people of all levels.  Erika is a gem of a human and getting to work with her always brightened my day.” - Tess R.

✨ “I recently had the opportunity to grab a friend and join Erika painting live! Not only was it a fun way to connect with my friend who I can't see very often, but it was both relaxing and re-energizing to paint with a fantastic watercolor illustrator and painter.

During the monthly painting parties we covered color mixing and wash techniques and since joining I have seen major improvements in my watercolor skill.”

“My main form of art is as a photographer, but it has been so fun to learn how to watercolor!

Thanks Erika for informative and engaging painting parties and for all your tips and inspiration!” - Lindsay P. - Photographer - Mom of 2 Littles

✨ “I started The Playful Painter Studio knowing NOTHING about watercolor, but wanting to challenge myself with something new. I am a perfectionist, so there was also the aspect of watercolor forcing me to work with the unexpected and nonlinear response of watercolors that appealed to me.

The membership has been a lovely way to ease my way into it. I can go at my own pace which means I can also go back and review previous lessons. Erika’s voice is so soothing and inviting! The entire experience has helped me to feel more comfortable with just playing and not expecting perfection and watercolors have become a favorite way for me to give to myself.” - Sara S.

✨ “I set up my desk with my water, paints and brushes with my cup of tea on a slow weekend. I may only have time to do it for 20-30 min sometimes. I am a busy mom & business owner. However, every time I make time to paint - I am glad I made time to nourish my soul with time to be creative ✨💖✨” - Adrianne O.

Hey! Erika here.

I got into teaching watercolor painting as a way to reconnect to myself when I was working in corporate. I was compartmentalizing and not being my full self which was an artist as well as a data analyst.

I started to notice a pattern.  I had always been an artist but the more my life changed (management role in corporate, mom to two kids under 5, etc) the less I had time to create and the more depleted I was. I was starting to go through the motions, basically groundhog day of getting kids to daycare, getting myself to work, picking kids up from daycare, getting ready for the next day and repeat.  I thought taking a bath or occasionally going to run an errand without toddlers with me was a big treat.  That wasn’t it.

What really mattered was having fun for me again which meant having an outlet that had playfulness, connection and flow at the same time. I didn’t expect feeling isolated from parts of myself as a result of my achievements in other areas.

To fight the burnout I was starting to feel, I started eating at my desk so I could paint on my breaks and lunches at work instead. The joy from those moments of quiet and calm painting was amazing and energizing. I was connecting with the part of me that was outside of being an employee and a mom. I was more me, Erika, and tuned more into what I liked and what I didn’t like. It empowered me to take more control over my life and make changes that added even more fulfillment to the mix!

And now, I want the same for you.

That’s why I created The Playful Painter Studio. An easy access way to get you creating as a way to add peace, clarity and connection to your busy life too!

Let’s do this friends!
