Birthday Surprises and Love.

This month is absolutely nuts but one of the high-points was my birthday.  My oldest nephew, Antoine, has been talking about coming back out to visit from California for awhile and he recently texted me saying he was definitely coming this year in October.  I was excited and left it at that.  The Friday before my birthday weekend (August 9) I came home with the girls and Raul helped me with getting them out of the car and such.  I was holding Z and I came in the house to see an iPhone pointing at me from around the corner.  I had no idea whose hand it was and then my nephew jumped from around the corner and said "Surprise!".  I could not and still cannot believe it!  It was the best surprise and he recorded the whole thing.  Raul and Antoine had been planning this since April!!  Sneaky and I love surprises so I'm over the moon. :D

The rest of the weekend was full of hanging out at the zoo, taking pics, chatting it up, playing Ticket to Ride,  eating our fill of homemade food and peach cobbler.  So much love, it was a perfect birthday weekend.

I Love Instagram.

Thank you to my 270 followers on Instagram!  It's by far my favorite place to post the most and if you don't follow me there, you should.  My name is the same, @fluximagery, and whenever I reach my next 100 followers I will have a giveaway.  I'm only 30 away, give or take.

Don't be a wall flower and join the party over there!

What I'm Working On - No. 1

December is almost over, but I refuse to believe it. I signed up for a class that starts in January called, "Make Art that Sells: Assignment Bootcamp". It is one of Lilla Rogers' classes and I have been curious about her for awhile now. She is a well-known and successful art director and she represents Lisa Congdon, an artist whose work I love by the way. Another one of my friends who primarily uses Adobe Illustrator, Jannie Ho, has taken one of her courses as well. I've heard nothing but good things so I'm excited!

I needed something that had a flexible timeline, promoted community and gave me a swift kick in the behind so my art translates into tangible real-world items. Just more pieces of the puzzle to figure out and I can't wait to start.

Is there anything you are particularly looking forward to in 2015?

I Think It's Time to Let You Know...

...we are expecting a little baby girl in March!!  Things have been exactly the same as they were with Addy, meaning I was knocked out asleep for the whole first three months.  I am now at 15 weeks and I have a burst of energy.  Go go go mode!  Nesting is setting in, we have lots to do when it comes to making up our now guest room into a nursery/guest room combo.

The cat is officially out of the bag, our trio is turning into a quartet and we are so excited.  I need to get on purpose with taking more pictures, my mood/sleepiness and this cold have been getting in the way.

Hope your week is going great, one more day til Friday!

Party, yay!

The month of May was long but it flew by for me.  We had a lot going on and the main event that I was hustling with was planning and prepping for baby girl's 2nd birthday.  I'm getting verklempt.  I was struggling of what to do for her party and once I settled on the butterfly theme, it all came together.  Amazon was perfect for finding all of the decorations and favors.  We are re-using the Happy Birthday signage I made last year for each birthday party.

I don't even know why I put a time frame on party invitations because I just want everyone to stay forever.  Instead of 2 hours, it quickly turned to 4 but I don't know about you and your friends but it is getting harder and harder to plan out time with friends over here.  Everyone is so busy with work and family that it is hard to find dates that work for everyone so when I can gather them all, it's on!

Our munchkin had the best time and was a social butterfly galore.  How fitting. :)

Traveling.

Hi there.  This was the sunset we had on Sunday, absolutely crazy beautiful.  I have been working, playing, running, jumping, reading, cleaning, organizing, eating, decorating and planning.  Thanksgiving was a good time.  We hosted for the first time and ended up ordering the whole meal from Mimi's.  Long story short all of us were too busy to make things from scratch.  I did make a peach cobbler though just because I thought the pie wasn't big enough for all of us.  Next year we will cook and go all out.  I'll probably end up making a side of some sort for Christmas.

I cannot believe we will be on vacation all next week.  We are going on an adventure to Vancouver!  We are flying to Seattle and thens driving to Vancouver.  Four years ago we went for the first time in spring when the winter Olympics were there that year.  This time we are going in winter and I have no idea what to expect.  I keep looking at the forecast but you still don't really know.  I think I'll be wearing a lot of layers to play it safe.  This is our first time flying with our little 18 month old munchkin so I am excited about that but a little anxious too.  She has been a little grumpster lately and we are noticing some molars coming in.  We have family in Vancouver so that is the main thing we are focusing on, spending time with his sister and her family.

I did order a car seat carrier and a stroller carrier too.  I need to buy a little $20 Cosco stroller from Target as well.  So much to do.  If you have any tips for traveling with munchkins, please let me know.

Oh and also, my Pepperminty Hot Chocolate recipe for They Draw and Cook is up on the jumbotron this week.  I love this hipster Santa illustration.  Awesome!

Have a great night!

Quiet

I took another Skillshare class (I'm addicted) and I loved it.  Of course.  Brad Woodward's Digital Illustration class was fantastic.  The project was to illustrate the word Loud or Quiet.  At first I chose Loud but when I started brainstorming, I quickly headed over to the Quiet side.  This is my final illo.  I'm open to critiques, so let me know yay or nay.

Speaking of Quiet, my first published book Queen Quail is Quiet has been out for 6 months this month!  I can't wait to work on another book and for now I'm creating small projects for my shop.

Thanks for visiting and come back soon!

Winning!

A watercolor artist and friend that I look up to recently had a contest.  All you had to do was leave a comment about what migratory birds are your favorite and mine are hummingbirds.  I was so excited to hear I won.  Golly Bard aka Holly Ward Bimba is an exceptional watercolor artist.  I love her free flowing style, she makes it look easy.  She paints nature, insects, birds, nests.... it's all beautiful and in her shop.  She even has her works made into fabric on Spoonflower.  I can't wait to frame my print and put it up.

Thank you Holly, I love it!

Queen Quail is quiet book.

Hi guys!  My book, Queen Quail is Quiet, would be great as a gift for art lovers, Christmas, baby-showers, birthdays, etc!  Lots of exclamation marks but I can't help it.  Check it out, tell your friends.  This is great news and it should be shared!  ;)  Tweet, Instagram, FB, share away.  If you tweet, use @erikabarriga and if you are Instagramming, use #queenquail.

Hope you are having the best weekend ever and embracing the fall weather.  We are having crazy rain and a slightly leaky roof here in Colorado.  This Amazon news has made me happy though.  Very.

And Then She Was One.

Our munchkin is officially one-years-old.  Can you believe it?  I can't.  This year has been one of the most memorable years of our lives.  I didn't think we would ever get to this point where we can sleep like we used to and slowly get back to a sense of a routine.  Addison is the most amazing little person.  She is so funny, smart and beautiful.  We get lost in her big dark brown eyes every day. So lucky and so blessed to call her our daughter.  Somebody pinch me.

We planned her party for weeks and I wanted everything to go perfectly.  Some things did like her handmade wooden Happy Birthday sign (inspired from this one), her cake, the venue, the friends, etc.  Some things did not, like the pouf decorations that I scrapped because I could not figure out how pouf them up.  No biggie. The theme was "Some Bunny is turning one" but it was tough to find bunny things, even though I started looking way before and during Easter.

She was the little hostess with the mostest. At first it took her a little while to warm up to everyone, I was concerned about that when I planned the guest list.  But she got over it pretty quickly and was soon "talking" to everyone and mingling about.

For the drinks I got some white peaches, CountryTime lemonade mix and seltzer water.  I made my mom the mixologist and the end result was a hit.  Very refreshing and delicious!

We got her all stripped down for the cake but she just played in it with her hands.  Not that surprising since she killed my sweet tooth when I was pregnant with her.  She isn't a huge fan of sweets...yet.

Baby girl passed out while we were cleaning up, so that's a sign of a great party to me.  We love you Addy, happy bday!
